Squirrels get into an attic at a roofline gap, usually where two planes meet or a soffit has pulled away. Between February and May there is very often a litter up there, which changes how the job has to be done.
Signs in the house
- Heavy movement in the attic during daylight, unlike rodents.
- A chewed or lifted opening at a soffit, fascia or roof junction.
- Insulation flattened into a nest, and droppings around it.
- Chattering or scratching from a ceiling in the early morning.
Size
23-30 cm body, with a tail nearly as long.
Active
Year-round. Litters in late winter and again in mid-summer.
Nests in
Attics, soffit voids, chimneys and wall cavities.
Risk
Structural and fire. Chewed wiring and fouled insulation.
Treatment window
Same week, under state permit.
